MOVING OPERATION-HOW TO ORGANIZE YOURSELF (2nd part)
the countdown
Get rid of everything that you are not going to take with you: organize a flea market, recycle, give away… whatever is necessary to lighten your transport costs
Go eating the frozen food that you still have at home. So you won’t have to throw away food when the date approaches
Ask that the latest electricity, gas, water and telephone bills be sent to you en bloc and that the service be disconnected if necessary
Estimate the cost of your move. You have to know how much money you have to decide between hiring a company or doing it on your own. Do not forget to budget for all the expenses involved in a move (transport, new furniture, cleaning products, packing material…).
When there are two weeks left, these are the movements that we advise you to do:
If you are going to hire a company, notify them with a minimum of 10-15 days and keep in mind that in the summer months it is better to further expand that margin.
Some of your belongings may need special permits for the transfer, such as firearms, for example. Consult with professionals if you have doubts.
Let everyone know about your change of address: post office, social security, insurance companies, banks… cancel –or modify– all subscriptions to magazines, clubs, etc…
When there is only a week left until the move, these are the things you will need to have under control:
Make a list of everything you will need to bring personally during the transfer, especially if it includes a change of city or country: ID, passports, documents, work permits, invoices, jewelry, money, plane tickets…
Keep enough clothes in a suitcase, in case the transfer process lasts several days.
Let your neighbors know that you are moving and that there will be a ruckus on the stairs for at least a day or two.
Return anything you’ve been borrowed.
The day before the move there are a few things you will need to do:
Disconnect the fridge and freezer. At least 24 hours before the move to be able to move the appliance with guarantees. Do not take perishable food with you.
Get rid of all toxic or flammable cleaning fluids.
And finally the day of the transfer has arrived… above all, keep calm. We wish you luck and much encouragement with your transfer
